On May 1st, at Danny’s Tavern, 31 brave local musicians were randomly grouped into brand new bands through a lottery style drawing. These bands then had a mere three weeks to meet, practice, and come up with a 15 minute set including at least one original song. We had no idea what the outcome would be, but after each group submitted their official band names at Danny’s, we knew we were in for a treat.
We certainly weren’t disappointed, as each band exceeded expectations at our first ever Rock Lottery Benefit, which was held on May 22nd at the Abbey Pub. The evening featured fantastic, one time only performances by The Juicers, The XYs, The Bunnies, The No and Knock it Off!, Panels, Jehovah’s Wetness, and Have You Seen the Trailer for the Movie Son of Rambow. A very special thank you is in order to all of the participants, Danny’s Tavern, Abbey Pub, and anyone who volunteered gear, hung up posters, or stopped by to enjoy the show.
With the 2008 camp session right around the corner, we would also like to extend our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the success of this year’s fundraising events. Thank you to Delilah’s, Darkroom, The Empty Bottle, Cobra Lounge, Danny’s Tavern, Abbey Pub, Avenue N Guitars, Chicago Tattoo, and anyone who donated crafts, volunteered, or came out to one of our events. We truly appreciate all of your contributions, and couldn’t have done it without you!
