GR!C Joins Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp in Chicago
The ladies from Portland’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls have certainly had an eventful year. March saw the release of Girls Rock! The Movie, a documentary following four campers from Portland’s annual rock camp. The film was instrumental in bringing attention to rock camps around the country, as well the virtues of these programs. But why stop there? This time around they’ve literally written the book. Today kicks off their tour to promote Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls: How to Start a Band, Write Songs, Record an Album, and Rock Out! The book brings you the camp’s best tips for everything from setting up a P.A. to considering your image and you can read a great review of it from GR!C workshop veterans, Venus Zine.
Please join us next week when we welcome three wonderful women from Portland’s long running camp to Chicago: Portland RnRC4G Program Director and drum instructor sts, Invincible Summer author and zinester Nicole Georges, and Dear Nora musician Katy Davidson. The event will feature readings from the book, live advice, visual art, and music, plus a performance by Girls! Rock Chicago camper band, MACE.
