Rock n’ Roll Fundraiser!

Jan 20th, 2009 by info | 0

2009 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for Girls! Rock Chicago. To kick it off, we’d like to invite you to our Rock n’ Roll fundraiser on Friday, January 23 at the Empty Bottle. Join us for an evening of great music from three pretty amazing Chicago bands. All proceeds from the event will benefit Girls Rock! Chicago summer camp.

About the bands:

White Mystery - “The real attraction is White Mystery, the new duo forged by Miss Alex White, best known as the guitar-wielding blowtorch in her long-running gig with the Red Orchestra. With drummer Francis White, she reduces her love of soul-fired garage rock to its butt-kicking essence.” (Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune)

Radar Eyes - “Sometimes so many punk and garage bands seem to come from the same cookie cutter that it’s tempting to write off the whole genre as toothless and played out…But every so often a band like Chicago’s Radar Eyes comes along… they reel off passionate, hook-filled songs like the Modern Lovers homage “Let’s Take a Ride” and the anti-horseshit Baseball Furies-style scorcher “I Grew Up Here.” (Brian Costello, Chicago Reader)

Tyler Jon Tyler - This is one opening band you won’t want to miss. In this former two piece, Jenn and Rebecca brought thumping pop in the vein of the Gories and the Vaselines and with the Ponys Nathan Jerde stepping in on bass, there’s no telling where they’re going next.

$8 tickets can be purchased in advance through TicketWeb, or at the door. Doors open at 9, show at 10. We hope to see you there!
