Girls Rock! Chicago is Hungry for Your Support!

May 16th, 2010 by melissa | Comments Off

Girls Rock! Chicago needs in-kind, tax-deductible donations for summer camp.

GR!C is run by an all-volunteer staff, and it is very hungry business for both volunteers and campers.  We are a non-profit whose survival depends upon the dedication of our volunteers, along with the generosity of individual and businesses donations.

While Girls Rock! is grateful for all contributions, it would be tremendously helpful if you could make an in-kind donation of healthy lunch foods or snacks to help feed our campers and staff. Camp will be held from June 21 - 26 and August 2 - 7 and we would be happy to work out a mutually convenient time to pick up any donations. Just e-mail us at melissa@girlsrockchicago.org about your donations, or any questions you might have.

Girls Rock! Chicago is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible. Additionally, sponsors are recognized on our website, in our newsletters, and at our final showcases at the Metro, which is open to the public.

Thank you again. Your support makes a huge difference in young girls’ lives.

Join our street team! See THE RUNAWAYS for free!!!

Mar 11th, 2010 by Ruby | 0

Wassup Rockers,

Time to promote and recruit for the upcoming Ladies and Girls Rock Camps!

Girls Rock! Chicago needs a group that is gung-ho to hang posters and talk up our org all over Chicagoland. To get this street team party started right, we’ve sweetened the pot: the first thirty people to enthusiastically email: ruby@girlsrockchicago.org will get a pass for you and a friend to see a sneak preview of THE RUNAWAYS - the biopic of Joan Jett’s groundbreaking girl band.

Now, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I cannot hide that I’m super psyched to see more women rocking out - whether it’s on the big screen, radio waves, garage, or stage. The free screening is Thursday, March 18th at AMC / Lowes 600 North, downtown at the corner of Rush and Ohio Street, 7pm.

The movie is rated R, so we envision this as an adult evening out, but if your teen camper absolutely must come, they better bring a parent as their partner in crime. Afterwards, let’s gather to make new friends and critique the movie’s message at a nearby bar (exact location TBD, suggestions would be super).

Check out more info on the film below.

Here’s crossing our fingers for a feminist bent,

THE RUNAWAYS

Opens March 19, 2010

Website:

http://www.runawaysmovie.com/

Synopsis:

THE RUNAWAYS follows two friends, Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits.
