Camp Week Volunteer Positions

Full-time Positions

***Starred positions are also needed at LADIES ROCK CAMP. Specific times and dates are listed on the Ladies Rock Camp application***

Counselor (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm; Sat showcase & Sun recording)

Being a Counselor at GR!C is similar to being a counselor at any other day-camp, but it rocks! Your role entails looking after a single band and its members (or, new for 2009, a quartet of DJs) throughout their activities during the week. Counselors will be called upon to help with everything from escorting wee rockers to the bathroom during practice, to helping the girls get to their workshops on time and efficiently, to making sure everyone has a lunch. Counselors should be good at multi-tasking, managing the tween set, and being bossy when necessary. Musical experience is appreciated, but not required.

***Band Coach (Mon–Fri, 2:30-4:30pm; Sat showcase & Sun recording)***

The Band Coach’s primary role is to help a band of campers write a song, which will be performed at the End-of-Camp Extravaganza. Band Coaches help the girls out with everything from plugging in to singing in tune, from the early songwriting stages to their final dress rehearsal. Naturally, Band Coaches should have experience playing a traditional rock instrument (guitar, bass or drums) in a band and, ideally, some songwriting experience.

***Instrument Teachers (Mon–Fri, 10:30am-12:30pm)***

There are three traditional rock instruments taught at camp: guitar, bass and drums. Instrument Teachers should be proficient in one of these instruments and have a broad enough knowledge base to be able to break down fundamentals in a language relevant to the tween-to-teen set. Instrument Teachers work with groups of 3 to 4 girls at a time, and are encouraged to lesson-plan and touch base with same-instrument teachers to ensure that all the girls are learning at about the same pace. We especially need bass teachers, so please sign up!

Part-Time Positions

***Workshop Teachers (Mon-Fri, 9:30-10:30am & 1:30-2:30pm)***

Teach a 1-hour class to about 25 campers on a special topic such as Zine-Making, T-shirt Design, or Songwriting. Be creative: We are interested in new workshop ideas. See our Workshops page for more information and how to apply.

***Roadies (Mon–Fri 9am–1pm & 1pm-5pm; camp load-in & load-out; Sat showcase; Sun recording)***

This is an ideal part-time job for volunteers who want to help at camp, but can’t commit to the full week. Just like in the real world, our Roadies help keep things running smoothly behind-the-scenes during rehearsals, as well as at the final show. Gear transportation (e.g. moving amps and drum kits between lessons and practice) is just as crucial as assembling healthy lunches and snacks so our rockers can stay focused. Minor heavy lifting is involved, but not required. Minor food prep is required; cooking is not. We encourage Roadies to sign up for at least two shifts, and we LOVE returning Roadies who can show our new ones the ropes!

Morning Care (Mon–Fri, 7:45am–9:15am)

Greet parents, welcome the girls to camp each morning, and usher them as a group to their first activity.

Evening Care (Mon–Fri 4:45pm–6:15pm)

Bid adieu to the rockers and make sure they get home safely.

Nurse/Doctor (Mon-Fri, on-call)

Camp regulations require that one certified Nurse or registered Doctor be on call throughout camp week. It is not necessary that you are physically present at camp; however, it is helpful if you live or work within a short drive or walk from camp.
