Girls Rock! Chicago is Hiring!

Our Program Coordinator, Jess LeMaster, is both sad and excited to announce that she’ll be leaving Girls Rock! Chicago in early October for a new position. She feels so grateful to have been able to spend the last 5 years with such a wonderful group of campers, parents, volunteers, organizers, and many other constituents. She is so appreciative of the values and skills she’s learned from Girls Rock! and its talented, caring, and hard-working community.

That being said, GR!C is accepting applications through October 5th, 2018 for her position:

Girls Rock! Chicago is hiring a Program Coordinator to oversee Girls Rock! Chicago programming, including researching and creating new programming opportunities, activities, and curriculum. The Programming Coordinator will organize workshops, overseeing and collaborating with instructors, band coaches, and other volunteers, and providing a liaison for Camp Organizers during, before and after camp season. Outside of camp season, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing year-round programming including GR!C’s adult rock camp, Let’s Rock! Chicago, drop-in style workshops, after-school programs, the youth action initiative, and more. The Program Coordinator will report to the Operations Manager and will collaborate with Camp Organizers for training and support.

The job description is as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Camp Preparation (January – May)
-Updates all camp acceptance process documents and applications
-Manages camp acceptance process, including tracking application status, updating and organizing camper data, updating instrument availability
-Maintains regular communication with parents/guardians regarding acceptance status
-Prepares materials and documents needed for camp, collaborating with Operations Manager, -Outreach Director, and Gear Coordinator to ensure that all items are accounted for

During Camp (June – August)
-Enhances GR!C curriculum, especially for advanced students
-Organizes workshops and assists with recruiting volunteers for workshops
-Collaborates with instructors and band coaches to provide support and assistance as needed
-Visits classrooms to assist with teaching, band practice, and classroom management
-Collaborates with Volunteer and Gear Coordinators to address gear needs

After Camp (September – December)
-Researches and plans for additional programming, including Let’s Rock Camp, after-school, year-round programming and year-round workshop opportunities
-Recruits volunteers and former campers to assist with programming enhancements
-Leads and coordinates youth initiatives including the GR!C Youth Committee
-Collaborates with Gear Coordinator and Operations Manager for gear needs related to programming
-Assists with grant writing to support all programming

REQUIREMENTS

-Flexible evening and weekend for meetings, tabling, special events, preparation, and staffing
-During the week before camp sessions and camp weeks, must be available full-time to work on workshops, camp-week curriculum, and camper acceptance/assignments. Is able to be at camp a minimum of eight hours each day.
-Before and after prep and camp weeks: Is able to work 15-20 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Passionate about Girls Rock! Chicago’s mission and impact
-1-2 years experience in a nonprofit organization, foundation, or government agencies
-1-2 years experience with programming for youth or other youth-focused work
-Highly intelligent, creative, and excellent communicator
-Track record delivering superior results, assuming leadership roles, and collaborating with a team.
-Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities
-Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor
-Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people
-Operates with excellence in mind in all matters, with the confidence to defend/debate ideas without ego interfering
-Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential
-Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational and professional settings
-Self-starter, self-disciplined
-Spark, imagination, creativity
-Remain focused in the face of pressure, delivers against timelines, meets deadlines, not intimidated by tasks/time limitations,

HOURLY POSITION
$13.00 – $16.00 per hour with a maximum of 20 hours a week.
