GR!C is looking for Teen Volunteers!

Girls Rock Chicago is accepting applications for Jr. teen volunteers (ages 14-16) and Jr. counselors (age 17)! The primary role of all teen volunteers is to develop leadership skills by modeling supportive and empowering behavior, building a positive camp climate, and supporting technical needs at camp.

Through these programs, both Jr. Teen Volunteers and Jr. Counselors will gain experience in:
-Building a positive camp environment and culture
-Modeling supportive and encouraging behavior
-Gear/supply coordination for a group of over 70 campers
-Professional interpersonal communication
-Working as part of a team to complete a collective goal
-Musical and technical vocabulary
-Safe and appropriate use of musical equipment

JR. TEEN VOLUNTEERS (ages 14-16)
This role is open to current and former campers ages 14 – 16. Staff will select up to three Jr. teen volunteers each session. Most of the duties will involve working with our Roadie Team, the infamous Road Dawgs.

Please note that this role is not first-come, first-served. Staff will make the final selection of Jr. teen volunteers based on the following criteria:
-Ability to collaborate and work on a team
-Enthusiasm for the proposed work
-Ability to articulate the understanding of the Girls Rock! Chicago mission
-Demonstrated maturity and responsibility

All jr. teen volunteers must commit to one entire camp week, including volunteer orientation, load in, the full camp week, and either the showcase or recording session.

To apply for the Jr. Teen Volunteer Program:
Complete the Girls Rock! Chicago Volunteer Application (You can select the role “Junior Counselor” and then add in the comments that you’re applying as a Teen Volunteer!)
Submit a letter of reference outlining your strengths and explaining why you’d be a good fit for the program. References can come from any non-family adult or peer, such as a mentor, teacher, counselor, or employer.
Applications are due Friday, June 15th. Applications will be reviewed by the Girls Rock! Chicago staff, and acceptance notifications will be sent on Wednesday, June 20th.

JR. COUNSELOR VOLUNTEERS (age 17):
This role is open to all woman-identifying, trans (regardless of identity), and gender non-conforming 17-year-olds, regardless of whether or not they have attended camp before. Jr. Counselors will assist where needed and provide support in a number of different camp roles, including counselors, instructors, band coaches, roadies and more!

All Jr. Counselor applicants must attend a volunteer information session with staff, review the volunteer manual, and attend one of our mandatory volunteer orientations: Sunday, June 24th 10 AM – 2 PM or Thursday, June 28th 6:30 PM – 9 PM.
