OTHER PROGRAMS

Bandwagon blank

Bandwagon

GR!C is excited to introduce “Bandwagon,” our virtual after-school program for Fall 2020. Bandwagon is a six-week experience on Zoom in which students will create and showcase original songs with their newly-formed bands. Bandwagon will meet on Tuesday afternoons over a six-week session, culminating in a celebratory weekend showcase.

Week 1 starts on Tuesday, November 10th and the final class will be Tuesday, December 15th. Our showcase will be Thursday, December 17th at 6:30 pm. We hope to run another session in January and February as well.

Bandwagon will run from 5:00 – 7:00 pm CST. Each afternoon will include:
– 1 hour of band practice at 5:00 pm
– a 30-minute activity (e.g. a workshop or concert) for the whole group
– 30 minutes of optional instrument support time

Bandwagon is open to girls, transgender youth of all identities, and gender-expansive youth ages 8 – 16. We will loan instruments and gear to campers who need them. Full tuition is $225, but financial aid and scholarships are available in order to make this program accessible to all students.

Our goals are for students to progress on their instruments and in their bands, and to enjoy & expand upon their own self-expression and creativity – all while collaborating with friends in a safe, social space!

Youth Action Committee

Girls Rock! Chicago’s Youth Action Committee provides our past and current campers, ages 14-16, a new and unique opportunity to be involved at the highest level of GR!C. Our committee members will meet bi-monthly over the next year to work on an action in honor of Girls Rock! Chicago. This could bloom into a workshop series at the next summer camp, a community action related to a social justice cause, a presentation for our community, or a social media campaign. Stay tuned to see what amazing ideas our youth-led committee has in store!
